VRTX System: Chemical-free Cooling Tower Water Treatment
Today, industries face a number of formidable challenges. In most markets, water usage is a significant concern, and many major water consumers are evaluating their options regarding water conservation, especially for high water-usage systems like cooling towers and evaporative condensers. VRTX is a solution.
VRTX Technologies manufactures the VRTX (pronounced 'vortex'), a well-established and proven chemical-free alternative for water in cooling towers and evaporative condensers. Based on hydrodynamic cavitation (NOT MAGNETS OR ELECTRIC FIELDS), VRTX is a mechanical device that uses kinetic energy to treat water. It is a technology that has proven reliable and predictable for controlling scale, corrosion, and biofouling in a wide range of services. Also, it can reduce water consumption significantly by avoiding blowdowns for prolonged periods.
VRTX Skid
VRTX uses an eductor chamber and an independent filtration system to convert dissolved calcium and carbonate into a non-sticking crystalline modified form of calcium carbonate that is easy to filter and remove. The combined synergistic effort of the eductor chamber and the filtration unit reduces the amount of blowdown from systems.
LEED Qualified
There are added benefits of the VRTX system. It can be LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) qualified as per the US Green Building Council. In addition, some current installations are using blowdown for non-potable applications such as irrigation and lawn watering. In some states, building operations with VRTX installations are eligible for rebates due to their facility's decrease in water consumption.
VRTX can qualify for LEED points in at least six (6) categories:
| 8 credits / 14 points 3 credits / 5 points 6 credits / 17 points 7 credits / 13 points 8 credits / 15 points 2 credits / 5 points |
VRTX Full Service Agreement
The VRTX Full Service Agreement provides our chemical-free water treatment system and filtration with experienced, professional installation and service during the contract period. In addition, your facility can eliminate chemical documentation and handling requirements, eliminate the exposure of your employees to chemicals, and provide chemical-free non-potable water for alternative water purposes all the while conserving water, one of earth's most precious resources.
Awards / Accolades
VRTX has received several awards over the last decade as a result of the benefits many facilities have achieved from implementing this innovative technology:
- 2006 AHR Green Building Innovation Award
- 2002 State of Minnesota - Governor's Award
- 1999 Plant Maintenance Magazine - Product of the Year (Gold Medal Award)
